The Merseyside Economy

Merseyside is currently undergoing regeneration on a huge scale, building up to the Capital of culture celebrations in 2008. Economists predict that there will be many jobs in several key areas, such as construction, tourism and creative industries created by the Capital of Culture programme, which in turn makes Merseyside one of the key regions for growth, not just in the Northwest, but nationally.

In recent times Merseyside has always lagged behind national averages such as employment and GVA. However signs are now that these averages are improving at a speedy rate, with employment in Merseyside improving at a rate of 5.4% in 2003 compared to a National average of 0.4%. If the region continues to improve at that rate, the economy will be thriving by 2008.
